Since 9/11, traveling requires following some new security measures for the passengers safety and protection. Whether you are going on a business trip or simply for vacation, make sure that you are prepared and aware of the place that you will be going to. This will ensure a safe and hassle free travel. My family and I travel comfortably and without worries. How do I do it, you ask? Here are some tips.

Before the trip:

  1. Pack as light as possible. Know the things that you can and cannot bring to the airport.
  2. Make copies of your passport and other important documents to prepare for any unseen circumstances. Leave a copy at home or with any member of the family.
  3. Place your valuables including cash and jewelry in your carry bag.
  4. Avoid wearing clothes, jewelries, accessories and shoes that contain metal as these would set off the alarm on metal detectors
  5. Do not wrap any gifts that you may want to bring.
  6. Do not bring lighters, matches and any hazardous materials
  7. Make sure that all your baggage has locks.
  8. Make a list of all the things inside your bag just in case your baggage gets lost.

At The Airport:

  1. Be at the airport early to avoid rushing.
  2. Be alert and guard your belongings especially your passport, airline tickets, cards and money
  3. Bring extra identification cards
  4. Dress comfortably.

In the Air:

  1. Relax and, if possible, sleep.
  2. If on a long flight move your feet around, or walk around regularly if you can.
  3. Avoid dehydration by drinking plenty of water
  4. Don’t eat too heavily before or during a long flight to avoid indigestion and hypertension.
  5. To reduce jet lag, have some extra sleep before the trip, get some sleep during the flight and try to synchronize mealtimes with the time it is at your destination.

At your destination

  1. Make sure that you have all your luggage before leaving the airport
  2. Don’t be afraid to ask for directions if needed.
  3. Dress like the natives. Avoid being a stand out in the crowd. Foreigners are usually prone to pickpockets and con artists.
  4. Avoid crowded places as it represents potential danger
  5. Tour modestly. Do not flaunt your gadgets and money when walking around. Bring only what you need. Store your other valuables in the hotel safe.
  6. Learn the language. Even a few basic lingoes will do. Natives will be more friendly and accommodating when you can speak in their native tongue.
  7. Be alert and guard your things well. Always check the people around you. Act confidently
  8. Know as to where you country’s embassy is located. This will be a big help when needed.
  9. Do not stay out too late when in a foreign country. It is advisable to have a companion when going around and touring.

HAVE A SAFE TRIP!
