Thanksgiving isn’t Thanksgiving without the lovely scent of the turkey roasting in the oven.

That scent will be doubly good when you use this recipe for herb roasted turkey, and the smell of the herbs and the turkey fill your kitchen, along with the spicy pumpkin pie and the rest of the accompanying dishes.

Thanksgiving is all about the meal isn’t it? Thank goodness for holidays like that!

Herb Roasted Turkey.

One 12-15 pound turkey

1 tsp thyme

1 tsp rosemary, crushed

1 /2 tsp sage

1/2 tsp garlic, minced

1 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper

1/2 cup butter or margarine

Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit

Wash and clean the turkey and remove giblets.

Place roasting rack inside baking pan and spray with non stick coating

pat turkey dry with paper towels

in a small bowl, mix the seasonings and the butter.

Brush about 3/4 of mixture onto turkey and then place in oven in roasting pan

Cook at 350 for about 2 and 1/2 hours to 3 hours..

Increase oven temperature to 400, and brush turkey with remainder of herb rub.

roast for an additional 1/2 to 3/4 hours or until meat thermometer inserted reaches 180 degrees.

(be sure that the thermometer does not touch the bone or you will get a false reading. )

(turkey roasting takes just about 15 minute per pound of meat as a general rule.

Remove and let stand 15 minutes prior to carving.
