I have always found cooking exciting because there is so much you can do with it to meet your taste bud’s satisfaction. You can experiment with so many different ingredients, you can add your favourite foods and drinks and mix ingredients that you would never believe could taste good together. I love making different concoctions with food. It’s like a cooking science-mixing things together to see what creates a reaction on your taste buds. You don’t have to be a great chef to cook, especially if you have the right recipe. You don’t have to follow the trends, you can take the simplest food, for example, fairy cakes, and make them into amazing food. All you have to do is use a simple recipe and add a few separate ingredients of your own. I have been doing this for years and I will admit I have found some good and bad flavours. However, my favourite one of all has to be my whiskey and fruit sponge cake. I was simply making a sponge cake one day and thought I would add a little twist to the recipe, so I raided my cupboards and all I could find was some whiskey and some raisins, so I thought, ‘why not?’ And the outcome was fantastic so I thought I would share it with you to see if you enjoy it as much myself, my family and my friends did.Ingredients

4 eggs

1 ½ cup sugar

1 tsp butter

1 cup self raising flour

½ cup of raisins

½ cup whiskey

½ cup butter

Step 1: Pre-heat oven to 325°

Step 2: Separate the white and the yolk of the eggs. Put the yolk of the eggs into a mixing bowl and the whites of the eggs into a separate cup or bowl.

Step 3: Add one cup of sugar to the yolks, gradually, whilst mixing together.

Step 4: Add 1 cup of self-raising flour and mix ingredients together well. If the mixture appears too dry add a small amount of water.

Step 5: Add the egg whites and mix well.

Step 6: Add the raisins and mix together so that the raisins are well spread throughout the mixture.

Step 7: Use a cake baking tin and add greasing paper or grease the tin with oil, butter or lard. This prevents the cake from sticking.

Step 8: Poor the mixture into the cake baking tin.

Step 9: Place into the pre-heated oven for 15-25 minutes or until risen and lightly brown. Prevent opening the oven too often as air will make the cake sink if it isn’t thoroughly cooked.

Step 10: Take the cake out of the oven when ready and place it onto a cooling tray until cold.

Step 11: Take a saucepan and add the butter and whiskey. Cook on the stove whilst mixing together gently until boiled.

Step 12: Carefully drizzle the whiskey and butter mixture over the top of the cake and leave to cool and harden.

Step 13 : Turn over the cake and repeat step 13 on the bottom of the cake.

There it is. The perfect whiskey and fruit sponge cake. This procedure can be repeated with any kind of fruit or drink you desire simply by replacing the location of the whiskey and raisins in this recipe with your choice of fruit and/or drink.
