Edible gifts are a gift that everyone appreciates when Christmas time rolls around. I make a box of cookies as a Christmas treat for the elderly families in our area, as well as for family and friends.

These cookies are always part of those edible Christmas gifts. These are not only delicious and flaky, they are superbly attractive and make a fine addition to a care package of Christmas treats.

2 and2/3 cups flour

pinch of salt

1 cup softened butter

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon water

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 ounces semi sweet chocolate, grated finely

confectioners sugar for dusting

12 ounces semi sweet chocolate, melted for dipping.

Heat your oven to 325, and grease two large baking sheets.

Sift flour and salt into a bowl.

In a larger bowl, beat the butter til it is creamed, add the sugar, water and vanilla.

Gently fold in the flour and grated chocolate until just blended.

With floured hands shape the dough into crescent shapes about a 1/2 inch wide and two inches long.

and place on sheet two inches apart.

bake at 325 for 20-25 minutes or until slightly gold in color.
Permit to cool about five minutes before transferring away from baking sheet.

Dust with confectioners sugar and permit to cool.

Line a bakers sheet with parchment paper.

When cooled using kitchen tongs, dip half of each cookie into the melted chocolate and place on a baking sheet prepared with parchment paper.

Chill until the chocolate has set.
