I am repairing a Lincoln rocking chair which has a caned back and seat. The back is simple, but the seat has me perplexed. It has holes at the front and back of the opening, and not on the sides, but also has grooves for the caning to set into behind those holes, and not on the sides! I don't get it! Help! I can send a picture, if needed.
Thanks!

I made plastic cane seats fitted into grooves with wedges and glued with waterproof glue with splines for my canoe seats. They didnt get at all wet really and i only weigh 10.5 stone but they didnt stay glued in for long and soon sagged. What did i do wrong and should i do caning with holes instead?
I am about to make another one and repair the damaged ones.maybe a wooden wedge glued in place would be a better fixing method for the plastic sheet cane.or could i solve the problem by fixing the plastic cane into holes with glued pegs?
Many Thanks

Can you advise about recaning the back of a bentwood rocker that appears to have holes for weaving? The problem is that the holes do not extend through the frame.
Thanks
