I really like this article because it highlights some key point for organizing a pantry like, sort like things with like things; toss what you don’t need and assign a home to everything. Determining what holders you need once you sort is a great fund’s saving tip. I would I have liked to know how much time to give to get the job done. Thanks for sharing.

Shaw, If you think it might work, just go ahead and try it. Give yourself a couple weeks of use to see if you need to shuffle your items around to a more convenient location; THEN buy anything else you might need to accommodate your final set up.

i am also trying to make sense of where storage is vis-a-vis use area.
anything that’s convenient seems like a good idea to me! my problem
at new house is too much storage and drawers–never thought that
would be difficult to figure! i need help please.

Ok I have a question…I have a small pantry, but then off my kitchen is my laundry room and it has a big built in cabinet. I have started to clean it out and was thinking of use it as a pantry/storage cabinet. Does that sound already to do? I mean I can store all lot of my bigger pots, canned goods and dry goods in the bigger one. And the other one I planning on keeping stuff that I use every day in it….I just need a little feed back. Thanks

Wire racks are not really an issue in a closet, with folded sweaters & such.
They actually allow air to flow thru and allow clothes to breathe.

However, I can see where they might not be the best thing in a pantry.
Smaller items could possibly fall thru the wires (or at least) not sit-straight
causing your shelves to look jumbled.

They now have “cut to fit” clear acrylic sheets that lay on top of those wire racks. I have seen them @ Lowe’s home improvement center.
And if they are too expensive, just go to your local craft store
(like Hobby Lobby) and purchase foam core board.
Yes, you’ll have to measure accurately & cut straight – - -
but hey – - – the savings may be worth it!
Finally, to finish off or “dress up” your pantry – - – add a small painting.
I just re-did my pantry & to keep me motivated to keep (it) neat – - -
I hung some little 5 X 5” oil paintings of fruit up along the top.
They look darling and I love ‘em!

Thanks for the tips. I live alone so it’s too easy to just eat the same things over and over. I know how to organize; this has given me motivation to organize the kitchen this house I just bought. It has a nice pantry, although the door opens the wrong way. I know, I can diy to the right way, but one thing at a time. Sp, tjanks agaon!

I am trying to organize my pantry. i’m a new home owner and so i’m starting out fresh. My pantry is small and has 6 wire racks. a lot of the you tube videos i’ve watched are large pantries with wooden shelves. I’m having trouble finding organization tools that will work for wire rack shelving. any help would be appreciated. thanks

I have found that if you count how many folks are in the family that are being fed, you make that your minimum for stocking up… as soon as you get down to that X amount its time to buy more… We are a family of 4 so all our favorite items are bought with that in mind as the basic amount to leave in the pantry that way in case of a 911 or financial strain causes a budget crunch in the grocery buying aspect at least I know we still have enough items to cover for a few days or so…

I am going to be cleaning out my pantry. What I am having trouble with is how many of an item do I need to keep. My mom says she used to keep seven of each canned veggies (corn, peas, carrots), then at the end of the week she would replenish what she used. I need help with the quantity of each item.
