You decorate the shell - which will NOT rot - and you have a beautiful keepsake. There's nothing left to eat. Also, if you PAINT your egg with acrylic paint, you should NOT eat the egg (ie: if you haven't blow it out), toxins from the pain will have leaked through the shell and into the egg. Who in their right mind would actually want to eat a boiled egg - bearing in mind eggs tend to be thought of as savoury - YOLK OR NO YOLK, with food colouring plastered on to it?!
