Hi! Let me add my way of cooking corn on the cob...

I husk it, then wrap it in saran wrap (roll it and twist the ends.) Microwave for about 5-7 minutes and remove. It will be very hot as it is almost the same as steaming. To butter the corn, I have always heavily buttered a slice of bread, then wrap around your corn. Twist the cob to cover all sides, then salt and pepper!!! The slice of bread will butter several ears!

Boil water in a pot large enough for the corn you will be serving. After water comes to a full boil, take the pot off the burner and place the ears in the pot. Cover and let stand for 7 minutes.

Adding a dash of sugar to the water is a secret my mother and wife have done when they weren't certain about the "quality" of the corn. Silver Queen from Southern NJ in August... nothing better.

Barbeque... leave in the husks, so no foil is necessary. Turn regularly for ten to twelve minutes on medium to hot grill.

I'm attempting soaking the corn overnight in sugar water before grilling them tomorrow. My mom soaks them in salt water and gets pretty good results, but I prefer sugar, since salt takes out the sweet flavor of the corn imo.

Not kidding; it is one alternative, though not my favorite way of preparing corn on the cob either ;-)

Boiled with husks on?? You're kidding, right? Husks only stay on when you're grilling and we've always soaked the cobs for an hour or two before grilling in a 5gal bucket of water. Works just fine!

How long do you steam it for? It is soft or more crispy for the time you let it steam?

Living in Illinois most of my life, I have been eating corn on the cob for over 50 years. I think the best is steamed. If you can get a "super-sweet" variety like Illini Super Sweet or Peaches and Cream, you won't believe the difference. Makes regular sweet corn taste like cardboard.

PS you can save the steaming water for use in making a vegetable broth.
