If you are tired of the day to day running to an office, don’t like alarm clocks or suits and decided that there had to be a better way to make a living, then you’re probably ready for a career change.

Finding a way to freelance for companies who need the services of someone like you, on a day to day basis is a great way to stay at home and support yourself and your family.

I left the office full time over 2 years ago, and although things were tight in the beginning, so far I havent’ looked back.

A freelance job can take a lot of forms, from working nursing for those who need an overnight assist, to working a blog, or starting servers, or even writing articles for web sites who require them on a regular basis.

One way to get a foot in the door, is to seek out one of the many sites which have begun to pop up on the Internet that will match you up with those who want your services.

Most will charge a small fee for you to use their service, but you will find the opportunity to bid on many different types and priced jobs, where you can begin to make a name in the consulting business.

What I did, was to work several of those jobs each week, and to build a rapport with some of the companies, who then in turned used my service again and again, and offered some great referrals to assist me in finding others.

I then took on a virtual assistant job that lasted for about 8 months, prior to moving back to writing articles and restarting servers again.

Many sites will offer some wonderful individuals who will pay well and in a timely way, however there are also those who will low ball and ask you to do an article along with research that may take upward of an hour, for two dollars or less.
Much like you’d not take a position that paid you two dollars an hour in the real world, so you can’t afford to do so when you are consulting and discouraging others from taking the lower pay will in the end help everyone involved in freelancing.

Be careful to research the quality of those who want to buy your time or service, and to ask them for the names of others who have worked for them in the past so that you can assure yourself of their reputation as an employer and to be sure that they pay, and pay in a timely way.

Working for someone for two weeks, who doesn’t pay for two more weeks, probably will make living difficult when you are dependent upon your jobs for your support.

Signing on with a company to do a particular job and see it through to its completion will ease the concerns about that type of exploitation, with a set fee arranged for each job that you tackle, much like the salaried employee would have.

Specific courses that might aid you in a consulting career would be as varied of course as your choice of the career to follow.

Medical consulting is one that I took on, and it worked well for me because as a former nurse, some of the medical knowledge that I had was exactly what was necessary in the specific web site I worked for.

So many fields are now open to the consultant that to choose a course that would serve well in all of them is difficult at best, however the one that springs immediately to mind would be of course English or grammar.

No group will want to use someone who can’t write well, or whose grammar and English needs to be consistently corrected or replaced. Make sure that when you work at the position, you will check and double check your work prior to turning it in.

Dependent upon your skills in the field that you’ve chosen you are well able to meet you needs financially by a career in consulting.

Programmers who work freelance are often paid more than twice what they normally make for working in an office and Canada as well as the US offered these incentives, because they do not have to maintain offices and furnish the supplies for these type employees.

Nurses who work freelance in the US make substantially more than they might do working in hospital, and give the fairly vast nursing shortage they can expect to be offered a great deal more in other countries.

When I was working nursing, I found that even the non skilled nursing jobs paid more for me in the open arenas such as home health than they did when I was working in house such as a hospital or nursing home.

Freelance Programmers and writers are in great demand by many US Companies, as are drivers, writers and medical personnel.

Among the companies who use freelance assistance in some of their projects are some very well known companies such as:
*Google, the search engine giant
*Rent a Coder
*Kelly Temps: supplies writers, secretaries, programmers and a wide array of temporary workers nation wide in the US.

*Sun Micro-systems, who have been known to hire on a temp basis for a specific project.
Consulting can be rewarding both personally and financially as in the case of Dave who currently works for one of the largest computer firms in the world.

Dave began on a smaller project and worked on a temporary basis. The company was pleased with his work and hired him to become a permanent part of their team. He now travels both nationally and internationally to work on projects and has effectively tripled his salary from what it was when he began working for an ISP several years ago.

Many companies will hire those whose work they admire for a permanent placement.
Freelance consulting may just be your step up to a new career path.

For those who are considering returning to the work force but would like to remain in their own homes to do so, finding a way to make money from home is not always easy.

There are the countless endless scams which explain how to make a fortune from your personal computer without lifting so much as the proverbial finger to help yourself.

As they say, if it sounds too good to be true it most probably is.

There are however some legitimate work at home, and freelance opportunities in the data entry field.

Many companies and corporations will hire freelancers to input their data into fields, keep abreast of email or enter email addresses into databases.

These are not difficult positions to fill, yet pay usually per number or entries made, but often times will pay by the hour as well

Many data entry positions are from the larger companies who are seeking to use a service which has a little more time and will be able to use that to assure the quality as well as the quantity of the work.

You can work at home, and love it! It just takes time and perseverance. Spend part of each week, looking for jobs and searching for freelance opportunities. I have personally done everything from writing about machinery to troubleshooting new software to writing press releases for some very large companies.

There are various sites which will help you to find online work opportunities..
One thing to remember that is when a company wants you to pay them to give you work, its not a company that you should be dealing with.. many of these are indeed scams, designed to make money for the artist, not for you..

Continue your searching until you find something that affords you the right to work without having to pay a premium price for it.

Try a search on Google to find a list of telecommuting and work at home positions, using a reputable site that will help you to be matched with someone who has a need of your particular skill set.

They will ask you for a fee to join the site in most cases but usually the fee is nominal and will be covered by your first job. Do beware on sites such as these though and don’t take more than the least amount that you feel is fair.

When I began I dealt with several unscrupulous individuals who believed it was fair to bid on jobs from a site and then farm those writing jobs out to others, keeping not a fair amount as a finders fee, but instead, usually over fifty percent, so that the person who actually writes the item, will receive usually less than two dollars per article.

You will be able to spot these individuals by checking their names on the site prior to bidding on their jobs, and comparing how many things they sell each week and also if they sell services as well as buying them, how many they actually bid on. Then compare the two columns to see if there are jobs that are alike in the listings.

There are legitimate people out there who want to buy your talents but remember, that taking less than you are worth, will mean you don’t have time to do a job for someone who values the work you put out and to beware of anything that wants money from you. Up front usually means that you aren’t going to make out on this one.

Many people are migrating away from the office job and turning their sights on a job they can do from home that will let them do other things as well.

Finding this type of work that you can work at from your home PC is not going to just come into your email inbox. . For the most part it will not fall into your lap.

It is, as anything else, a job.. A job that you will need to go and find, be interviewed for and many others will want that same position. Many, if not most of the people who do clerical work from home, created their own jobs by virtue of hard work, effort and a lot of scanning Internet sites, freelance job areas and sites and applications to various companies on their own time.

Very few of the clerical work from home classified on the Internet that you pay tons of funds to access will truly pan out for you sadly enough.

Before you begin to do your job search, assess your skills. The possession of a computer and typing in a role play or in chat rooms or emails to your mother in law do not in any case count as “marketable” skills.

What kind of clerical skills do you have that are marketable.? Are you a very fast typist? Can you transcribe, proofread, write knowledgeably about many things, or be able to spot typos a mile away?? Do you have any formal training in any area that will help you to find a job as a virtual assistant or a web site author?

The best advice many home workers in the clerical field, give is that they offered low cost typing, printing or desktop publishing to businesses or smaller businesses in their area, and began their business generally purchasing outsourced bits and pieces and then worked their way up.
Here are a few ideas.

-paralegal, veterinary offices, physicians offices, confirmation calls, hospital phone calls.

Each person who is actively working phoned this type business and offered to outsource for them, giving a cut rate until they had proven themselves in the field.

Some telecommuting jobs don’t pay what you will be used to in an office job, and they are not always high powered positions that will give you access to vast sums of money on a weekly basis. Most are part-time. So–if you’re looking for a position that will pay you about 100 -150 a week, then this is probably the way for you to go.

Writing articles on various web sites can be found on many for bid web sites, and dependent upon your skills or how fast you write, you can make as much as you like, provided that you build a good reputation and take in more than one bid per week.

As with any other position, rising through the ranks will take time and effort but not having to dress for the office will be well worth it.

Telecommuting is all the rage these days and virtual assistant positions abound in nearly all walks of internet and business life.

Many people work full time from home now, and as such having a home office is not just a perk, but an absolute necessity, which offers some sound benefits to the user as well.

For one, a person can conceivably work out of their home while caring for young children, which adds up to considerable savings and peace of mind.

Someone who is busy working at home has the luxury as well of taking care of inevitable last minute items in the comfort of their own home without constant interruptions.

With any project, jumping in feet first, without really knowing what you want, need or will find useful is not the way to go.

You will be spending a significant amount of time in your home office and your lifestyle, that of your clients and their visits will also be something that must be taken into account when planning your home office.

To have yourself taken seriously as a professional, your space should be one of the most important aspects of consideration!

Specific steps that you should consider with regard to your new home office are:

1.	Think about your business and how it functions, and what are its goals.
What kind of space will you need to be an effective business person, what type equipment and how will it operate..
Selecting a space that is too small will impact greatly your efforts to focus on the business at hand and to be creative and functional in that business area.

Many people make the mistake of thinking that a small corner in the living room will make a suitable office when in reality it won’t.

The interruptions will be constant and the clientele who may visit will be spilling over into your day to day life, which is a factor you might want to consider and discuss with a partner prior to choosing an area such as that.
If this is the only location available, try to find a stylish way to set it apart such as a Japanese printed screen, or a tall shelving unit that still works in your environment.

2. Some people can work effectively with noise and traffic, some cannot. While you might need natural light, many people find it a distraction and don’t want that aspect in their office, so a basement would work well for them, while you might feel claustrophobic. Some need light and air; others can work

What is the best spot in the house for you to be able to function effectively and to work to your best advantage.
Focus is of paramount importance in a home work situation.

As most of us know who work in that arena, if you don’t work that day, you don’t get vacation pay. Its important to be able to concentrate and get the job done in a professional way.

Make a list of locations that might be suitable and then pare them down one at a time until you find the one that is perfect for your particular needs.

3.	A separate room: To be able to use your home office for taxation purposes, it must be a separate room dedicated to your work, not a corner office in your living room, which really doesn’t scream professional any way does it?

In deciding which space or room is going to work for you, you will need to be certain that you have enough electrical outlets, phone lines, lighting, air/heat flow, etc.

4.	Furnishings: This ties into space too. If you already have items like a desk that you plan to use, the size of those

items may alter your plans slightly. Be prepared to be a little more flexible and choose another space to prevent yourself from having to purchase new and significantly more costly desks and tables, rather than to adjust the space or room to suit what you already have.

Finally, little things mean a lot: A potted plant, some personal touches, can make or break a positive working environment.

A place that’s too dull or calm will put you to sleep. One that’s too bright can cause headaches. That’s why point 1 continues to be important. Know yourself and your working style and design accordingly. A home office need not

cost a fortune to work very well, and for most start-up companies it SHOULD NOT cost a lot. Buy what you need to function effectively. Let the rest wait until you know your operating profit margins. To find wonderful designs for your new home office
